The discussion focused on how cross-border partnerships between UK and Malaysian institutions can support students to build both creative and technical skills through industry-linked learning opportunities.
A key element of the collaboration is Royal Selangor’s work with Nottingham Trent University students using pewter, a heritage material strongly associated with Malaysia.
The program introduces students to traditional manufacturing techniques alongside contemporary design practice, allowing them to work with real-world industry processes and constraints.
Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Hanafi Ahmad highlighted the broader value of international education partnerships in connecting academic study with industry experience, and in providing students with opportunities to engage with global networks, cultural exchange and employability pathways.
