McGill University, ranked 30th in the world, has been setting the standard for academic and research excellence for more than a century. That legacy continues today at the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management. Founded in 1906, Desautels has evolved into one of the world’s premier business schools, earning a place among the top 50 globally and #37 in North America. This prestige is partially owed to its integrated approach to management education, which places management education in a broader global context while developing the leadership skills today’s organisations demand.

Experience that sets you apart
At the heart of Desautels’ integrated management approach is experiential learning that is intentional, real-world, hands-on, reflective, and provides space for feedback. Master of Business Administration (MBA) students, for example, enhance their global learning journey with a 10-day international study trip that offers behind-the-scenes access to companies, workshops and business leaders. As your studies progress, so do your opportunities. Spend a term at a partner institution in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East or North America, then return home to an internship tailored to your career goals. With personalised support from the Career Management team, every full-time MBA student looking for an internship has secured one. Those looking to deepen their expertise can take on faculty-guided practicums as well.
A highlight of the Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) is the Experiential Analytics Consulting module, where you’ll apply analytics, AI, and data-driven strategies to solve business challenges. You can also participate in a year-long corporate consulting project, digitising operations and improving the data analytics capabilities of leading organisations such as KPMG and L’Oréal. The MMA gives back too — past students have used their analytic expertise to help dozens of small to medium-sized Canadian businesses recover amidst economic uncertainty.
Choosing the Master of Management in Finance (MMF) means taking on another kind of challenge through Desautels Capital Management Inc. (DCM), Canada’s first university-owned, student-run, licensed and regulated investment firm. Through the Desautels Alpha Squared Equity Fund and the Desautels Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) Equity Fund, you’ll get a head start in professionally developing investment strategies. You’ll also head to London for an annual study trip, where you’ll meet McGill alumni and finance professionals to learn how one of the world’s leading financial centres stays at the forefront of the industry.
Meanwhile, the Master of Management in Retailing (MMR) entails taking on real-world retail challenges in the Retail Gen AI Hackathon, using generative, predictive and prescriptive AI to develop solutions. If innovation is more your thing, the Retail Innovation Challenge is an entrepreneurial competition where you’ll help retailers build a more sustainable future.
Other opportunities include a year-long retail project, a three-to-four-month internship in marketing, strategy, operations, data science, or supply chain, and time in the Retail Innovation Lab, where you’ll explore consumer behaviour, experiential marketing, omni channel retailing, pricing analytics, efficacy of different payment systems, and global value chain management. Industry events like the Annual Retail Summit and the programme’s one-week international study trip connect you with leaders across food, fashion and beauty, fintech, intelligent mobility, and hospitality industries.

Business education for a connected world
Across each programme, you’ll build the leadership, problem-solving and decision-making skills that stay with you long after graduation.
“The most significant impact came from the programme’s focus on leadership development and career mentorship,” says MBA student Oreoluwa Alabi. “It has consistently provided the clarity, support and resources I need to achieve my professional goals.”
The faculty’s innovative programmes and long-standing reputation for excellence continue to attract students from around the world, including Olympic athletes, artists, healthcare professionals, and professionals with backgrounds in business, finance, and analytics. That diversity creates a cohort that constantly learns from each other. Experienced professors take enrichment up a notch.
“The MMA fosters a supportive and responsive environment with meaningful exposure and countless opportunities for those who are eager to learn, something I never experienced in my undergrad,” shares student Iris Wang.
Step outside campus and you’ll find yourself in the heart of downtown Montreal, one of the world’s top 20 student cities. The city is famous for its food, culture, and festivals, and is a powerhouse in industries such as artificial intelligence, aerospace, technology, pharmaceuticals, and video game development. It naturally broadens your perspective and prepares you for a global career — just like it has for more than.
