In 2018, Cheung Wai Kit’s BEng (Hons) in Building Services Engineering journey began with the building of a solid foundation in engineering principles, building systems design, and building management. But it was the support from his professors that would prove to be most transformative for him. “Their guidance and mentorship not only propelled my academic success but also opened doors to early research opportunities,” he explains.

Those opportunities eventually led him to discover a passion for fire safety. Now a final year PhD student, Kit has further advanced his expertise through international research exchanges, academic competitions, industry experience, and presentations at international conferences.

Looking ahead, he is eager to enter the industry after graduation. He hopes to bridge the gap between academic research and industry practice, translating research findings into practical engineering solutions that enhance building safety. “The support from my professors and the department’s outstanding resources has inspired me to pursue meaningful contributions to the field and work towards creating a safer and more resilient built environment,” he says.
